Retail is facing its biggest crisis in history, and the recovery will no doubt be long. However, according to our social listening trackers, people are excited about shops and attractions opening up again as families take the opportunity to get out of the house after so long a time indoors.
With overseas holidays on hold for many families around the world, they are planning “staycations” in their own local area instead. We hear reports every week where tourist attractions are seeing overwhelming numbers of “local” visitors turning out to support them.
With people starting to gain confidence in visiting retail and tourist destinations, it is up each and every business to take steps in promoting the fact they are open, and safe to visit. (Read our top tips on welcoming customers back to your store here.) And then, we must not forget that although visitors may be anxious about visiting… they still want to spend money on toys and gifts as they normally would! In some cases possibly more than before as parents take their children out for the first time in a long while, they take the opportunity to make it a real treat for their families and a really good day out for all.
There is ample opportunity for retailers to maximise their profit with children’s impulse products, especially if the range is eye-catching and appealing to both the parent and the child.

A recent poll by childcare.co.uk found that 40% of families are spending more time together outdoors, and with a boom in staycation holidays to boot, there is ample opportunity to entice shoppers with outdoor toys, games, puzzles and animal products.
We recommend these popular outdoor toys; Tangle Free Parachute, Traditional Pocket Kite, Scented Footballs, Rainbow Stunt Streamer, Bucket and Spade, and Flying Rings. Check out the selection of wholesale outdoor toys, here.
With sales of board games and puzzles soaring throughout the coronavirus crisis, this product category remains a top seller. Help your customers solve their own puzzle of trying to keep the family entertained during their staycation trips. View our collection of wholesale games and puzzles.
More popular product lines include; animal-themed products, nature and animal books, imaginative play, hatching eggs, craft and science kits. View our wholesale brochure or contact us for help in curating your toy selection.
In order to ensure you store is safe for visitors, hand gel stations at the door are the new norm. However, it is also essential and expected by consumers that it is now not possible to touch items in the store as it once was before – but that doesn’t mean you cannot still wow your customers with attractive displays.
At Keycraft we are passionate about helping our retailers to find new and creative ways to display their product offering. Our bright, colourful and attractive display stands take up a small amount of shop floor space and provide attractive focal points throughout your store. Coupled with our free printable “Do Not Touch” and “Ask for Assistance” signs to be displayed next to them – this combination allows for the display to be both attractive and safe for your customers. This “new normal” also means retailers have ample room to think outside the box in ways to attract customers. Do you have any outdoor space which could be utilised? You could create a display of top-selling items outdoors to entice shoppers to venture indoors. An option to pay outside may also be possible, especially if you have a handheld payment device.
Display items which do not rely on nice weather, as you do not want to have to move everything inside at the first drop of rain. Some of our outdoor toys are perfect for this, and not forgetting Bloonimals Inflatable Sticks display. Why not set up an inflation station to attract families walking past?
One of the simplest ways to entice shoppers is to have a clean and tidy shopfront with an attractive window display. Take a good old fashioned walk-through, starting with the outdoor surroundings. Are there weeds which could be tidied up? Does the window sill need a lick of paint? Are your windows and doors gleaming? First impressions are so important, you don’t want to disengage people before they even step foot in your store!
When considering what items to showcase in your window display, think about your target audience. Use the space to highlight your shop or brands personality, and consider if there are any stories to tell using your display.
